Purpose

The Challenge is funded by the Labor Government’s $2 billion investment in the Breakthrough Victoria Fund, which invests in innovative companies and founders looking to solve complex problems.

Overview

The Breakthrough Victoria Challenge aims to catalyse new innovations, discover new IP, build the capability of local innovators and attract global talent to address emerging problems.

There is an emerging problem to address in this round. That is when solar panels are replaced. They have a:

  • Short lifestyle
  • High waste volume
  • Valuable components in panels

Breakthrough Victoria is calling on submissions from the broader scientific and innovation community that we can help foster and commercialise as a scalable solution.

Funding available

Breakthrough Victoria will invest at all stages of a company’s journey, from pre-seed to and beyond - to the value of $10 million. We are an equity investor (think of us like a VC). We do not offer grants or venture debt, we do make direct investments, or we can do convertible notes.

Limitations

Eligibility

Investment is available for existing businesses in Victoria or those outside Victoria looking to expand into this state.

Breakthrough Victoria wants to invest in solar panel recycling to directly create a circular economy within Victoria for solar panels, while diverting waste from landfill, creating jobs and stimulating economic development within the state.
