Purpose

The objective of this assistance measure is to assist with the costs of clean-up and reinstatement of non-profit organisations that have suffered direct damage as a direct result of the statewide severe weather event in Tasmania that commenced on 26 August 2024.

Overview

Non-profit organisations (NPOs) play an integral part in recovery of local economies and communities, and those NPOs affected by the event may require extraordinary support to enable them to continue their roles.

The objectives of the Program are to assist NPOs that were impacted by the event with the costs of clean-up and reinstatement; and to continue or recommence operations as soon as possible where the impact has been severe.

The Program will contribute to minimising disruption across the state and assisting communities to recover, continue or re-commence activity and contribute to the restoration of social and community networks, and the economic recovery of impacted communities.

This initiative is jointly funded with the Australian Federal Government and the Tasmanian Government under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Limitations

To be eligible for a grant, the non-profit organisation must meet all of the eligibility criteria outlined below:

    • The NPO is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC).
    • The NPO is a registered incorporated association that does not employ staff and does not sell goods and services (excluding Membership fees) that make up more than 30% of total income.
  • Your organisation operated as a NPO located and/or operating in Tasmania and was actively operating immediately prior to the severe weather event that began on 26 August 2024.
  • The NPO suffered direct damage to premises, assets, internal fittings, or equipment owned or used by the organisation to carry out normal operations and are responsible for meeting the costs to replace or repair.
  • The NPO organisation is intending to re-establish the same non-profit support and/or services in the same, or nearby, location within the same municipality.
