Purpose
The objective of the Government’s “PowerSmart for Small Business” initiative is to help Tasmanian small businesses save money by becoming more energy efficient.
Overview
The Government has allocated $450,000 per year for PowerSmart for Small Business over four years ($1.8 million in total), from 2024-25 to 2027-28.
Grants of up to $1,000 will be available per eligible small business towards the cost of conducting an energy efficiency audit, to be undertaken by an independent energy auditor.
Businesses may voluntarily spend more than $1,000 on an eligible energy efficiency audit. However, the grant subsidy provided will be capped at $1,000 per business.
If a business pays for an energy audit service that costs less than $1,000, the business will only be eligible for a subsidy equal to reimbursement of the actual cost incurred.
Grants will be paid as a reimbursement after an eligible business has incurred the cost of the audit.
Applications will be assessed in order of receipt using the eligibility criteria.
Limitations
To be eligible for a grant you must:
- have an active Australian Business Number (ABN) continuously since on or before 1 March 2024*
- employ between 1 and 19 full time equivalent (FTE) employees**
- be a business primarily operating in Tasmania
- have paid for, and received, an independent energy efficiency audit in line with these guidelines after 11 April 2024.
