Purpose

Latrobe City Trust invites applications on an annual basis for the award of the Jean Galbraith Memorial Rotary Scholarship in Environmental Science.

Overview

The scholarship was established in 2000 to commemorate the life and work of renowned botanist and writer, Ms Jean Galbraith, and her contribution to the community of Tyers, and the Gippsland region.

Applicants will have completed at least the first year of a university science-orientated degree course, including first year biology, with very good results and be able to demonstrate a link to Latrobe City as prescribed in the Scholarship Guidelines.

The Scholarship provides a grant of $500 per year, up to two years, of further study to assist students with the purchase of course materials and/or field work costs.

Limitations

Applicants will have completed at least the first year of a university science-orientated degree course, including first year biology, with very good results.

They will be children of Latrobe City residents or have completed at least two years of their secondary education within the municipality and/or be enrolled or intending to enrol at Federation University Gippsland.

They will be continuing with full-time studies in botany, ecology or conservation of natural resources.

The intention of the Trust is to support students majoring in areas broadly related to the scientific interests of the late Jean Galbraith.

Preference may be given to applicants planning to undertake field studies based in, or relevant to, the Gippsland region.
