Purpose

The Indigenous Youth Mobility Pathways project (IYMP) supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people who choose to move away from home to gain the qualifications they need to have a greater chance of obtaining sustainable employment in their home community or elsewhere.

Overview

IYMP provides the tailored support young Indigenous Australians need to pursue their dreams and achieve their long-term career goals. They aim to build careers, not just jobs.

IYMP addresses and removes the barriers to education and employment providing holistic support to young Indigenous people whilst engaged in the project.

IYMP staff walk beside each participant throughout their journey. IYMP provides support to over 230 young Indigenous people per year across Australia

Indigenous youth are supported to move to an IYMP host location to participate in vocational training, University and Australian Apprenticeships. IYMP helps to identify uniquely suitable education and employment opportunities so Indigenous youth have a positive educational experience and gain the knowledge and skills required to pursue their specific career goals.

IYMP participants are supported in every aspect of life, education alone is not enough. IYMP aspires to teach all the life skills required to live an independent and meaningful life beyond IYMP support. IYMP cultivate First Nation leaders who inspire other young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to chase their dreams, take skills back to their home community and build the capacity of remote communities across the country.
