Traditionally held in the third week of June each year, it brings together the journalistic, political and corporate chiefs of Australia.

It is a night of glamour and irreverence, networking and entertainment, but the good fun is also for a good cause. With the help of generous corporate support, the ball has raised $5,515,500 for charity to date.

Applicants are encouraged to nominate specific projects for funding rather than ongoing administrative expenses and are welcome to nominate one or more funding amount requests. All decisions regarding which charities are funded are made independently by the Midwinter Ball Committee and are final.

Charities seeking funding from the National Press Gallery Midwinter Ball Foundation must complete the online application form by Thursday 24 April 2025.

The Midwinter Ball supports national charities only and does not support state based charities except those based in the Australian Capital Territory. Only in exceptional cases do they support international charities.
