Purpose

This grant provides assistance for funeral or tombstone costs for a deceased Beneficiary.

Overview

Wiri Yuwiburra Community Benefits Trust has developed a range of Grant Programs to support and assist Aboriginal Group beneficiaries in alignment with the Trust Deed and its objectives.

The Funeral and Tombstone grant is available as once off grant, maximum grant amounts below:

  • Funeral - up to $5000
  • Tombstone - up to $2000

The Community Benefits Program offers funding to eligible applicants for the below types of projects or activities that provide community benefits:

Limitations

General Eligibility

The Trust is governed by a Trust Deed. To be eligible to apply for a grant, the applicant must be a "Beneficiary".

A Beneficiary is:

  • Any Wiri, Yuwiburra and Barada Barna Peoples, regardless of residential status.
  • Any member of the broader Birri Gubba Nation resident in the Agreement Area.

Specific guidelines and information that relate to this area of funding are as follows:

  • The applicant does not need to be an eligible Beneficiary of the Trust, but evidence of the deceased's eligibility must be confirmed.
  • The applicant is not required to submit an evaluation report to acquit the grant, as the funds will be paid directly to the funeral director.
  • This is a one-off payment to support the cost of a funeral and/or a tombstone for an eligible deceased Beneficiary.
