Purpose
In the Community Wellbeing program area, the Foundation seeks to identify and support those organisations which have well thought out projects that seek to help vulnerable members of the community to overcome the challenging circumstances in which they find themselves.
Overview
In the next open round for Community Wellbeing, the focus will be exclusively on projects and organisations operating and/or delivering activities in rural and remote areas of Australia.
The Foundations support extends both to organisations that have demonstrated success and to those seeking to make well-considered innovations. The Foundation favours programs that are preventative in nature and seek to address the root causes of disadvantage.
Funding Objective
- To improve circumstances for disadvantaged members of the community, this program area funds initiatives delivered by organisations supporting people with disabilities, or otherwise marginalised individuals primarily with the objective to secure employment pathways.
Organisations of any size are encouraged to apply. The Foundation only considers grant applications for multi-year grants for a minimum of $100,000.
The Foundation particularly encourages applications in high-need areas that have a strong volunteer component and/or a volunteer Board that is a representative cross-section of the community.
Limitations
Is your organisation eligible?
Only charitable organisations that hold both DGR Item 1 and TCC status are eligible to apply for a grant. Refer to Can We Apply? to learn more and complete the Eligibility Quiz.
Important to know
- Applicants must speak with the Program Manager before preparing an Expression of Interest (EOI). Calls can be booked approximately 2-3 weeks prior to the funding round opening.
- University applicants should contact their Advancement/Research Office prior to submitting an EOI or Application. See specific instructions for applications from universities or research institutes.
- Please note that existing projects may not be eligible. Occasionally the Foundation will support a development or innovation to an existing project but please contact the relevant program manager before proceeding.
- Applications for each program area are open once a year for consideration by the Board of Governors.
- In general, the recommended minimum grant amount for institutions and organisations is $100,000 per year and grants are usually multi-year.
- We encourage all organisations to apply regardless of their size; in the case of smaller organisations, the award can be for smaller amounts over multiple years.
- Proposals that are collaborative and/or share knowledge with the broader sector are encouraged.
- The Foundation rarely awards the full amount of any project. Please ensure that you have alternative providers of funding and that your application clearly considers any possible grant from the Foundation in this context.
- Please also refer to our Funding Principles for further information.
Please refer to the RRMA classification for Rural and Remote (Table 1, page 5 of Rural, regional and remotehealth:A guide to remoteness classifications, Australian Institute of Health and Welfare) to determine if your project/organisation meets these requirements.
