Overview
The Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) Program provides a travel subsidy for Year 4-12 students across Australia to visit Parliament House, Museum of Australian Democracy, National Electoral Education Centre (including booking into an education program offered), the Australian War Memorial and other national institutions as part of their civics and citizenship education.
To qualify for PACER, your school’s travel itinerary must include:
- an educational tour of Parliament House and, where possible, an immersive learning experience with the Parliamentary Education Office
- the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House
- the National Electoral Education Centre at Old Parliament House
- the Australian War Memorial
These activities need to be booked prior to your excursion and copies of your bookings submitted as part of your itinerary with your PACER Application.
To find more information and booking details go to Mandatory Attractions.
Limitations
Eligibility and requirements
To be eligible schools are required to participate in PACER approved programs with at least three of the four Mandatory PACER Institutions.
The current PACER eligibility requirements state that schools must visit at least three of the four mandatory institutions and the principle purpose of the tour must be to enhance student learning in civics and citizenship education.
If in the event that a mandatory institution is fully booked, then a PACER program at an alternative institution may be booked. Written evidence that the mandatory institution is fully booked is required for this to be deemed eligible.
The mandatory and alternative institutions and their PACER approved programs are listed at Attachment A.
